1942, AT THE PHOTOGRAPHER

MY GRANDMOTHER DECIDED TO HAVE A PICTURE TAKEN IN 1942. JUST BEFORE THEY WENT INTO HIDING FOR THE NAZI'S.

WHEN I GREW UP,  JUDAISM IN OUR FAMILY WAS MINIMISED TO NOTHING MORE THAN  A NOSTALGIC KUGEL WITH PEARS.

JUDAISM WAS FEAR AND PAIN, HARDLY VISIBLE, BUT JUST BELOW THE SURFACE.

THE DAVIDSTAR ON MY GRANDMOTHERS DRESS LEADS

 IMMEDIATELY TO THE HOLOCAUST.

THE SIGN WAS USED FOR STIGMATISM, DISCRIMINATION AND DESTRUCTION.

NOBODY IN OUR FAMILY TALKED ABOUT

THE FAMILY MEMBERS BEING MURDERED IN THE DEATHCAMPS.

THATS WHY I SPEAK OUT WITH THIS PAINTING.
